If you live outside of the metro Boston area, you know that working, shopping, getting to appointments, and managing the demands of life can be very difficult if you don’t have a vehicle.

For one client, an individual from Afghanistan who JFS helped resettle in Needham, Mass in April 2021, this was the barrier that prevented him from securing gainful employment. The client had been looking for a job since June 2021 and had received four job offers from different employers, however he did not have the cash or credit needed to buy a car, Uber was too expensive as a long-term solution, and none of the jobs were on a convenient public transportation route, so he had to reject the job offers.

Through JFS’ new partnership with Second Chance Cars, an organization that matches working people with donated cars, the client was able to get a loan through Metro Credit Union and on December 9, 2022 received a donated car in very good condition that was inspected and refurbished by students at the Greater Lawrence Technical School.

Thanks to the support offered through this amazing partnership, the client will be able to accept the job offer on hand and be a source of income for his family.

Watch the recording of the award ceremony and join us in thanking Second Chance Cars, Metro Credit Union, and the students of the Greater Lawrence Technical School for supporting this client as he builds a new life for his family in our community.
