We hope this finds you and your family in good health. The year 2024 marks a significant milestone in our journey – we are excited to announce that JFS is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year! For nearly half a century, we have been dedicated to assisting individuals and families in need in our community, and we are proud of the impact we have made together with supporters like you.
Incorporated in 1979 to assist the Metrowest Jewish community with social service referrals, JFS’ expansion started with the resettlement of Jewish refugees from the former Soviet Union in the 80s and 90s. Since that time the agency has grown to serving over 7,800 individuals each year, providing a wide range of services that support the needs of Jewish community members and families in crisis, immigrants and refugees, and low-income older adults in the Metrowest Greater Boston region.
Today, affordable housing continues to be the biggest concern for many of the clients we serve, as more and more community members are facing homelessness or living on the streets.
Barbara was one client who came to JFS when she was facing homelessness. An older adult who requires handicapped accessible housing, Barbara was living in a rooming house that was emergency, temporary shelter. She needed to find safe, long-term housing. Her Family Assistance case manager worked tirelessly, looking for openings, helping Barbara fill out housing applications, and eventually was able to find her an affordable apartment in a suitable and welcoming community.
