May 2, 2025 – Framingham, MA — JFS of Metrowest is proud to announce that the organization has been awarded the prestigious Nancy King Award, in recognition of its leadership and tireless work in accelarating social, academic, and health equity throughout the Metrowest region.

This meaningful honor was presented to CEO Lino Covarrubias at the annual Alliance for MetroWest Unity Breakfast, celebrating organizations and individuals who are driving meaningful change and building a more just and inclusive community.

The award’s namesake, Nancy King, was a pioneering legal advocate who dedicated her life to equal justice. As the longtime Executive Director of South Middlesex Legal Services (SMLS), she spent over 30 years providing free legal aid to low-income residents across 36 communities. Even as she bravely battled breast cancer for more than two decades, Nancy remained a fierce champion for the underserved—often running her office remotely from the hospital to continue helping those in need.

Nancy King believed deeply in equal justice under the law—a value she carried not only in her work but in her life. In 2008, she was posthumously honored by the Massachusetts Bar Association with the Lifetime Achievement Award, becoming only the second recipient of this recognition. Her legacy lives on through the Nancy King Memorial Fellowship, which supports aspiring legal advocates at SMLS each summer. Click here to learn more.

Receiving this award is a profound honor for JFS of Metrowest. It reflects our continued mission to reduce barriers, fight inequities, and support individuals and families across the region through innovative programs and collaborative partnerships.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Alliance for MetroWest Unity for this recognition—and to all the community partners, staff, and supporters who make this important work possible.
