Job Title: Development Officer, Annual Fund

Primary Assignment: Development Department

Salary Range*: $70,000–$90,000 annually, commensurate with relevant education and experience.

Work Schedule: 40 hour-Full time Position with Benefits

Position Description:

JFS seeks a motivated, relationship-oriented Development Officer, Annual Fund to strengthen philanthropic support, community engagement, and marketing and communications. The officer manages individual donor and prospect relationships and creates compelling content that builds awareness of JFS’s services, impact, and ways to get involved. This work recognizes that constituents may engage as donors, volunteers, partners, advocates, or in multiple roles.

Working closely with the Senior Director of Philanthropy and Development team, the officer cultivates, solicits, and stewards gifts. The position partners with the Senior Director of Innovation and Community Engagement on shared relationships, events, and outreach. Agency communications responsibilities are carried out under the supervision and guidance of the Chief of Marketing and Revenue Programs, consistent with JFS’s messaging, voice, brand standards, and communications guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

Donor Relationships & Fundraising

  • Manage a portfolio of individual donors and prospects, using personalized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans to increase engagement and annual, major, and special-purpose gifts.
  • Research prospective donors’ interests, connections, and giving potential; identify and engage new prospective major donors.
  • Build year-round relationships through meetings, calls, agency visits, events, and individualized outreach; connect donors with JFS leadership, staff, programs, volunteers, and clients when appropriate.
  • Prepare personalized proposals, acknowledgments, impact updates, and stewardship materials that demonstrate the value of donors’ support.
  • Collaborate with Development colleagues, agency leadership, Board members, and volunteers to meet fundraising goals and support campaigns, events, and special initiatives.

Portfolio Management & Development Operations

  • Maintain accurate donor records, including interactions, interests, relationships, and next steps; keep individualized moves-management plans current.
  • Track portfolio activity, engagement, solicitations, and fundraising results.
  • Coordinate with volunteer and community engagement colleagues to maintain a shared understanding of each constituent’s involvement across JFS.

Marketing, Communications & Outreach

  • In partnership with the Chief Marketing and Revenue Programs Officer, create stories, blog posts, donor profiles, impact updates, and testimonials highlighting JFS services, clients, volunteers, community partnerships, and philanthropy.
  • Gather interviews, photos, and other content with colleagues, maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity; stay informed about programs, initiatives, and emerging community needs.
  • Develop, schedule, and post social media content; support email outreach and update website content on agency news, impact, events, volunteer opportunities, community resources, and philanthropy.
  • Prepare appeals, newsletters, brochures, donor updates, event promotions, and other print and digital materials; develop presentations, talking points, and briefings for donors, Board members, and community audiences.
  • Coordinate communications with Development, Community Engagement, and leadership to support fundraising, stewardship, volunteer engagement, and community awareness within established agency messaging and brand guidelines.
  • Support photography and media outreach as needed; use engagement data and feedback to improve communications and outreach.

Collaboration & Community Engagement

  • In partnership with the Senior Director of Innovation and Community Engagement on shared strategies for constituents involved in philanthropy, volunteering, partnerships, and advocacy.
  • Plan, support, and follow up on donor gatherings and community-facing events that advance friend-raising, volunteer engagement, community connections, and fundraising, with clear shared goals, audiences, responsibilities, and next steps.
  • Represent JFS at community events, presentations, and networking activities, communicating its mission, services, impact, and opportunities for involvement accurately and enthusiastically.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Approximately 3–5 years of fundraising, development, donor relations, sales, relationship management, or comparable experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple donor relationships and priorities.

*Starting salary within the range will reflect the candidate’s qualifications, directly relevant experience, and demonstrated level of professional achievement. The upper portion of the range is generally reserved for highly experienced candidates with a proven record of success in comparable roles.
