At JFS, We Celebrate the People, Cultures and Contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans.
Each year, from September 15 to October 15, we recognize National Hispanic Heritage Month, honoring the histories, cultures and contributions of Hispanic Americans. At JFS, we embrace this observance as an opportunity to celebrate the broader Latino community as well. We recognize that Hispanic and Latino are distinct identities and are not interchangeable for everyone, while honoring the extraordinary contributions these diverse communities make to the strength and vitality of our society.
At JFS, we believe in the power of people and the strength found in diversity. Our work is rooted in compassion, equity and inclusion, and we are proud to serve alongside individuals and families whose cultures, languages, traditions and lived experiences enrich our organization and the communities we call home.
This month, we celebrate a rich tapestry of resilience, creativity, tradition and hope. We honor immigrants who build new beginnings while carrying cherished traditions forward; families who strengthen communities across generations; artists, educators, laborers, entrepreneurs and leaders who expand what is possible; and the countless everyday acts of courage, generosity and care that make our communities stronger.
This celebration is especially meaningful at JFS, where more than 50% of our staff are native Spanish or Portuguese speakers. Every day, these colleagues bring language skills, cultural knowledge and lived understanding to the compassionate, culturally responsive services they provide. Their contributions help build trust, strengthen connections and ensure that people can access support with dignity, respect and understanding.
National Hispanic Heritage Month also reminds us that celebrating culture is about more than recognizing the past. It is about valuing the people who are shaping our communities today and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to belong, contribute and thrive.
As we celebrate this month, JFS reaffirms our commitment to equity, access, opportunity and belonging for all. We are grateful for the people, cultures and traditions that enrich our shared community and inspire our work every day.
