To commemorate Veteran’s Day on November 11th, Big Cake Boston held a drive-by celebration event to honor the men and women who have served our country, visiting four housing complexes in Framingham — JFS was proud to participate in this event!
Big Cake Boston, a mobile celebration service provided by Framingham-based Craig Sutton Entertainment, lead the drive-by event with a 3-tier 4′ tall cake prop dressed in red, white, and blue. Stops were made Shillman House (a property of 2Life Communities) and Rose Kennedy Lane, John J. Brady Drive and Hastings House (Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities/NORCs managed by the Framingham Housing Authority).
Present at the event were several JFS staff members, they shared these thoughts…
JFS CEO, Lino Covarrubias said, “As a veteran myself, I am very proud that our staff and volunteers will be part of this event, thank you to Big Cake Boston and all of the coordinators for honoring our community’s service members!”
Karen Block, Program Specialist at JFS shared, “This pandemic has caused immense feelings of isolation and loneliness especially among the elderly. Knowing they’ve served our country, we should take advantage of any opportunity–not just on Veteran’s Day–but every day to thank them for their sacrifice and let them know they have not been forgotten.”
Participating staff also included, “Thank you to Karen Block for working with these community partners to organizing JFS’ presence in today’s Veterans Day drive-by to these older adults sites–Rose Kennedy, John J. Brady, Hastings House and Shillman House. The Veterans and all residents loved it! Also thank you to some of our [other JFS] staff that were able to make it today — Lesley Bazer (and her son), Abrielle Salloway (with her two daughters), Malka Young and Joanne Kane. Also a huge thank you to Mr. Big Cake Boston himself, Craig Sutton of EventGoToGuy.com. Our procession was just the right size to navigate through the tight quarters of FHA public housing.
Thank you again for making this Veterans Day extra special.”
