Dear Friends,

In recent days, we have received an urgent update that the State of Massachusetts is imminently expecting to receive 1,000 people coming from Afghanistan. Through our partnerships with JFS of Western Mass and HIAS, we here at JFS are expecting to provide life-saving assistance to 30 evacuees (under 10 families) over the coming weeks.

Unlike Afghans arriving with Special Immigrant Visas, these evacuees (also referred to as Humanitarian Parolees) are not eligible for the same services and public benefits as refugees and will need our immediate help with housing as well as food, employment and other basic needs. We hope that a proposal being presented to the Governor’s office will help provide funds for this work, but in the meantime, we need your support!

Many have asked how they can help. At this time, we are desperately seeking financial contributions to assist with the housing needs of these families as they take their first steps towards safety in the shelter of our welcoming community. We have a dedicated link for this humanitarian effort.

Guided by the principles of Tikkun Olam, we are committed to ensuring these families have what they need to build a new future for their children, and hope that you will join us in healing and repairing the world by making a meaningful gift to JFS today.

Additionally, we have a match up to $15,000 from a generous donor. If you have given in the past, please consider increasing your gift. If you have not yet given, please be as generous as you can.

Thank you for your caring and support as these families seek safe haven.
