Clockwise: Senior Director of Innovation and Community Engagement Adam Smith lends a hand at a Children’s Clothing Closet pop up event at Daniel’s Table; a Patient Navigator volunteer escorts a client to a medical appointment; Homecare Training Manager Dámaris Medina-Hernández helps a group of Haitian migrants move to new housing; Board Member Jodi Bring assists in delivering 3,000 Passover meals to community members; Case Manager Sue Delahunt welcomes a family from Venezuela at the airport; a young volunteer works with the team to provide over 450 backpacks to students in need.

As we approach the Jewish New Year of Rosh Hashanah, a time for reflection and renewal, let us take a moment to acknowledge the challenges we’ve faced over the past year. The loss and strife in two wars- in Ukraine and in the Middle East, rising hate and antisemitism, and the divisions on our college campuses have all weighed heavily on our hearts. Yet, amidst the sorrow, we have the opportunity to embrace hope and continue our focus on positive impact in our communities.

This New Year invites us to recommit to our shared values of compassion, justice, and community. Let us welcome the stranger with open arms, fostering understanding and connection. Let us take care of our aging population, for we owe much to them. Let us embrace our Jewish neighbors and provide service to those most in need so that no one has to struggle through this life alone.

In the spirit of Tikkun Olam, repairing the world, let us strive to do good in our communities, amplifying voices of kindness and understanding. By standing together in solidarity, we can transform our pain into purpose, ensuring that the values we hold dear shine brightly even in the darkest times.

May this Rosh Hashanah inspire us to nurture optimism, spread kindness, and champion justice. Let us step into the New Year with renewed faith in our ability to create a brighter, more inclusive future for all.

L’Shana Tova U’Metuka—May 5785 be a year of greater sweetness, peace, courage and action.
