JFS and the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of Greater Boston hosted a special screening of the award-winning film “My So Called Enemy” at Hebrew College, Newton to facilitate discussions that foster understanding and acceptance in response to an increase in instances of antisemitism and hate in the community.

Mobilizing Social Justice Action

With values deeply rooted in Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), JFS serves as an area convener, bringing together thought partners, diverse resources and
critical capacity to a variety of initiatives that empower community members of all ages to join and take action to make our world a better place:

  • Jewish Emergency Management System – providing security awareness and emergency response coordination, training and expertise
  • Bar/Bat Mitzvah and Day of Service Projects – enabling volunteers to help those in need
  • Jewish Day School and Jewish Teen Initiative Programs – teaching lessons in service, compassion and gratitude
  • Temple Partnerships – engaging in collaborative programming, advocacy and community member support
  • Philanthropic Opportunities for Community Conscious Companies – mobiliz- ing businesses and those employed in Metrowest who want to give back
  • Responsive Reaction – standing in solidarity and supporting our community when our neighbors are affected by acts of hate and violence
  • Resources for Veterans – increasing access to resources for those who served in the Armed Forces
  • Addressing Climate Change – institutionalizing operational changes and building partnerships that reduce impact at a local level
Serving as a community convener, JFS facilitated coordination of the 3rd annual Indigenous Peoples Day celebration in Framingham. Pictured above, CEO Lino Covarrubias stands with members of the Nipmuc Nation.
