The third module of the JFS/Rashi Learning and Leadership Council focused on Active Bystander Training. JFS CEO Lino Covarubbias presented to over 40 young leaders at The Rashi School.  The JFS-Rashi Learning and Leadership Council convenes Rashi Middle School students to strengthen their leadership skills, execute social services programming, and to lead in Boston Jewish community endeavors and beyond.

Lino presented Active Bystander training which focuses on 5 reasons that inhibit action in potentially dangerous or problematic situations, and teaches how to recognize, safely deescalate, and intervene. Students were divided into five mixed age groups to act out active bystander scenarios. One sixth grade student presented a poem she wrote called ‘Choices’ about the positive impact of being an active bystander!

Rashi student leader Levi Lasser, whose family became involved with the JFS Syrian resettlement project in 2016 and most recently are helping resettle Venezuelan families, lead a presentation and requested that council members collect donations for household items needed for incoming families to the U.S.  These items include paper towels, toilet paper, soap, hair products and cleaning supplies. The Rashi students will be collecting items and writing notes of comfort to welcome to these newly arriving families.

Thank you to all who participated in the Rashi Learning and Leadership Council Active Bystander Training!
