JFS of Metrowest’s innovative Home-Share program was recently highlighted in a letter to the editor published in The Boston Globe, recognizing homesharing as one of the many creative solutions to Massachusetts’ housing crisis (click here to read “Opinion: We should all be homesharing” in the July 5, 2026 issue of The Boston Globe).

In the letter, JFS CEO Lino Covarrubias and Cindy Rowe, President & CEO of the Jewish Alliance for Law and Social Action (JALSA), point to the success of JFS’s Home-Share pilot program. Over the past two years, the program has matched older homeowners with individuals seeking affordable housing, creating meaningful living arrangements that benefit everyone involved.

The impact has been significant. Participants have gained greater financial stability, reduced feelings of isolation, and the opportunity to build lasting connections. As one participant shared, “I came looking for a place to live, but I found a family.

While homesharing isn’t the only answer to the Commonwealth’s housing challenges, it is an effective, practical solution that helps older adults age safely in place while expanding access to affordable housing—all by making better use of existing homes.
