JFS is pleased to announce that it has received a grant from the Mass Cultural Council to support the monthly JFS Memory Cafés which currently take place at Temple Beth Am in Framingham.

JFS Memory Cafés are free to all and feature local musicians, artists, and entertainers that engage individuals with varying cognitive abilities.  Memory Cafés are designed to foster connection, support, and joy for both the person with dementia and their care partner.  A spouse caregiver noted that “it is good to see the music ‘turn on the light’ in my wife.  That’s the beauty of these Memory Cafés that I’d like to get the word out about so others could benefit.”  In this space, individuals find not only support but also fun and laughter.

One of the main reasons people attend the Memory Cafés is the sense of community they foster. Participants find understanding in the company of others facing similar challenges. Caregivers appreciate the opportunity to connect with other caregivers, sharing experiences and coping strategies. Geriatric care experts from JFS are on hand to answer questions and share community resources. These Memory Cafés become spaces where everyone feels welcome and accepted, reducing the isolation families experience when a loved one is diagnosed with dementia.

The mission of the Mass Cultural Council is to advance the Commonwealth’s creative and cultural sector by celebrating traditions and talents, championing its collective needs, and equitably investing public resources.

Many thanks to the Mass Cultural Council for their generous support!
