JFS is collaborating with the Framingham Housing Authority to support resident seniors to remain healthy, independent, and age in place as part of the Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NORC). JFS has implemented and manages a healthy aging program called “Healthy Partners” at two different subsidized senior housing sites- Hastings House and Rose Kennedy Lane. The NORC programs deliver services, develop partnerships, mobilize resources, and foster the creation of environments that promote aging in place. They are also a cost-effective way to keep seniors in their homes and out of nursing homes, allowing them to age with dignity in their communities.

In Late August and Early September, the JFS Healthy Aging team held an end of the summer BBQ. This BBQ was free to attend but we did ask the residents of Rose Kennedy Lane and Hastings House to fill out a survey. This survey included questions regarding demographic, programs, health and wellness. The survey helps the Healthy Aging team understand what the residents want and need, allowing JFS to provide residents with better resources to live better and with dignity. If the residents participated in the survey, they got to be entered to win one of two $50 Market Basket Gift cards!  Once the surveys were handed in, everyone got to enjoy hot dogs, watermelon, and a fresh garden salad! Many members of the Healthy Aging team and Community Engagement team were present at the BBQs including Abrielle Salloway, Karen Block, Laila Vehvilainen, Mandy Fleming, and Alexis Vincuilla.

Thank you to all who participated and helped make this event a success!
