Job Title: Case Manager

Primary Assignment: Immigrant Services

Salary Range: Commensurate with Level of Education and Experience (Specialist I or II)

Position Description:

Jewish Family Service (JFS) of Metrowest is a Framingham, Massachusetts based non-profit agency that provides vital social, health and community services to alleviate suffering, enhance lives and support people in need. JFS is a multi-cultural, multi-linguistic organization with deep roots in both the Jewish and broader community.

JFS is developing innovative, integrated resources that address the social, emotional, and financial needs of immigrants, refugees, and asylees, giving them the tools they need to succeed. Services include: Enhanced, intensive case management and information/referral; access to basic needs such as clothing and food; Citizenship application support; Refugee and Asylee Resettlement services; and mentoring programs to support first generation students and their families. JFS has worked with individuals and families from over 60 countries including Albania, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, China, Congo, Haiti, India, Iran, Mexico, Portugal, Syria, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Venezuela, Vietnam and Zambia.

This position focuses on supporting JFS’s Resettlement Program by assisting migrant families placed in local hotels, as well as walk-in clients who have arrived in the U.S. with a sponsor and need help accessing benefits, resources, and other essential services.

Responsibilities:

  • Case Management for Migrant Families: Provide comprehensive case management services to migrant families housed in shelters or hotels, including:
    • Conducting intakes and needs assessments.
    • Assisting with benefits enrollment and conducting follow-up as needed.
    • Making referrals and helping clients access additional state and local resources, such as basic needs assistance, ESOL programs, health services, employment services, and eventually housing resources.
  • Collaboration with Legal Services: Work closely with attorneys and paralegals from Metrowest Legal Services who provide legal support to the same client group.
  • Client Support and Resource Guidance: Serve as a resource for families, helping them navigate their current situation and understand the services available to them.
  • Volunteer Coordination: Assist in coordinating volunteers who provide support to the families when relevant.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with the Resettlement team to ensure seamless service delivery and address any challenges that arise.
  • Language Support: Provide language interpretation and translation services, or coordinate with translators proficient in the client’s language as needed.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate case notes and files in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Flexibility in Schedule: Be open to working occasional evening or weekend hours to accommodate client needs.

Qualifications:

  • Educational and Language Requirements
    • Bachelor’s Degree with at least 2 years of paid work experience in a related field or High School diploma with at least 3 years of paid experience in a related field. (Salary offer is based on educational level and relevant work experience).
    • Fluency in Haitian Creole and/or Spanish is highly preferred.
  • Experience and Cultural Competency
    • Prior experience in human services, with a preference for candidates who have worked in multi-linguistic and multi-cultural communities.
    • Ability to interact with clients in a non-judgmental, compassionate, and respectful manner.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to set limits and maintain boundaries with clients and colleagues.
    • Skilled in building relationships as part of an interactive, supportive team with high expectations.
  • Problem-Solving and Independence
    • Ability to multi-task, operate independently, and solve problems in real time.
    • Strong organizational skills and capability to handle dynamic, fast-paced environments.
  • Knowledge of Community Resources
    • Ability to develop and maintain knowledge of community resources and make appropriate referrals for clients.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping
    • Proficiency in electronic record keeping with experience in real-time data entry.
      • Salesforce Platform experience is a plus.
  • Empathy and Compassion
    • Ability to empathize with clients who may have experienced trauma, displacement, or loss.
    • Patience and a compassionate approach to support clients in crisis situations.
  • Interpersonal Skills and Teamwork
    • Strong interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships with clients and colleagues.
    • Team-oriented approach to collaborate with other case managers and program staff.
  • Knowledge of Immigration and Resettlement Policies
    • Understanding of local, state, and federal immigration policies and procedures.
    • Familiarity with services and benefits available for refugees and immigrants (e.g., public benefits, housing, employment support).
  • Goal-Setting and Empowerment
    • Experience in developing client-centered service plans and setting achievable goals.
    • Ability to empower clients to build self-sufficiency and independence.

The duties of the Case Manager are varied and may change based on the evolving needs of the program. Flexibility and adaptability are essential as responsibilities may shift to address specific client or organizational requirements.
