When life takes an unexpected turn, having somewhere to turn can make all the difference. Supported by Combined Jewish Philanthropies (CJP), the JFS Family Assistance Network (FAN) provides confidential, respectful assistance to individuals and families across Metrowest who are facing urgent financial challenges. Our goal is not only to help meet immediate needs, but to support households in regaining stability, independence, and long-term self-sufficiency.

Through FAN, JFS offers comprehensive, coordinated support tailored to each household’s situation. Services include case management, intake and assessment of needs, service planning and follow-up, and connections to a wide network of community resources. Families and individuals also receive financial literacy guidance and support navigating complex systems—ensuring help is both practical and empowering.

For one recent client, this holistic approach was life-changing. After losing both housing and employment, she reached out to JFS unsure of where else to turn. Working closely with her JFS case manager Abrielle Salloway, LCSW over many months, she received not only financial assistance but consistent guidance, advocacy, and emotional support. Together, they addressed immediate crises while also focusing on long-term goals.

With the help of JFS, she started a new job and then prepared to focus on finding stable housing—milestones she credits to the steady support and safe, trusting relationship she built with her case manager. “Abrielle and JFS have been instrumental in the progress I have made over the past year”, she shared. “I just got a job and am going to work to have my own place to live soon. My weekly (sometimes daily) meetings with Abrielle over many months have been important touch points for me and have allowed me to navigate the sometimes choppy waters of life with support and direction. I came to her with almost nothing and didn’t know where to else to turn. I did not know about what JFS could help me with but they looked at my situation from a holistic view. Abrielle worked with me not only on navigating my loss of living situation and employment but overall emotional well being. She always created a safe space for me to express both my fears and hopes. I’m looking forward to starting my new job next week and then focusing on housing. I can’t thank JFS and Abrielle enough for seeing me through one of the most difficult times in my life.”

In addition to case management and financial assistance—such as help with utilities, food, medical needs, transportation, and housing-related expenses—FAN connects clients to legal assistance, emergency food resources, employment re-entry support through partnerships like Jewish Vocational Service, and mental health resources through CJP’s Mental Health Access platform. Assistance is provided based on income eligibility, with payments made directly to vendors whenever possible.

Stories like this remind us that stability is built through more than one-time help. It is created through trust, partnership, and a commitment to meeting people where they are—especially during moments of crisis.

If you or someone you know is experiencing financial hardship and could benefit from support, help is available. Complete the Request for Assistance form or call 508-875-3100 to learn more about the JFS Family Assistance Network.
